Known for exceptional gorilla trekking adventures, East Africa has two gorilla destinations – Uganda and Rwanda. In Central Africa, you can adventure deep into Kahuzi Biega or Virunga rainforests of the Democratic Republic of Congo for incredible encounters with these gentle giants of the jungle.

The total number of protected areas that house these most endangered of great apes in East and Central African regions is five, which includes Mgahinga and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in western Uganda, Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, and Virunga National Park and Kahuzi Biega National Park in the eastern DRC.
