Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge

The name Ichumbi is derived from the local Rufumbira meaning a “cool comfortable home.” Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge is just 10 minutes’ walk to Rushaga gate of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has a spectacular view of this park right from your room. Ichumbi is designed to provide you with high end comfort and relaxation to be able to enjoy your gorilla safaris. You can also go birding watching and enjoy forest life surrounded by impressive landscape.

Location: The Lodge is located in the western part of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Getting there: The lodge can be accesses from Kigali Rwanda, it about 4 to 5 hours by road depending on delays spent at border crossing. Access from Entebbe/Kampala, is 8 hours by road. You can also travel by air. Aerolink operates scheduled domestic flights to Kisoro Airstrip. Chartered flights can also be arranged.

Gorilla Families: Rushaga has Eight families (Nshongi family, Mishaya family, Kahungye family, Busingye family, Bweza family, Bikyingi family, Rwigi family, Mucunguzi family), but Rwigi and Mucunguzi familes are for habituation.

The Lodge

Ichumbi Gorilla lodge provides 9 Luxury Cottages. Each cottage has en-suite facilities with hot showers and a private balcony to enjoy the spectacular view of Bwindi forest and beautiful landscapes. Being in a mountainous country side, the lodge harvests rain water which is collected in large water tanks.

Main House

With a 360 view of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, the main building is strategically positioned with breathtaking views to give extraordinary access to the incredible Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

The main building is also sited on top of hill, you will not only have the incredible views but abundance of clean fresh air directly from the forest. The main building has a restaurant, bar with easy access to the cottages, parking yard, and a road that takes you right to the Uganda Wildlife Authority‘s briefing point of the Rushaga gate in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Rushaga Gorilla Walk

A gorilla walk to the water falls in Bwindi forest is chance to encounter real forest life and birds. The pygmy (Batwa) Cultural trail and the golden monkey walk experiences can be arranged for you in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park not to miss. We are well assured for a number of bird species and the beautiful water falls of Rushaga among others. 70$ per person

Community Walk

We get a chance to meet with; Batwa community, Agro-tourism, Three horned chameleon tracking, preparing local foods with the community (but if interested), Bat tracking 25$ /per person

Nature Walk

To those who would love to go for a nature walk goes up to the Rushaga falls but we won’t go through the forest.20$ /per person

Birding

To those who love the birding, u will find Ichumbi a great starting point for bird watching and a great number of bird endemics. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest has over 350 species. Day excursions can be done for bird watching in Mgahinga and lake mulehe/chahafi. Guided birding in the Rushaga forest 45$ /per person
